The program objectives for pediatric nursing are as follows:
1) Support the university's mission, vision, and goals.
2) Create stimulating educational learning environment for undergraduates and postgraduates.
3) Prepare graduates who are competent to meet the unique multiple and complex children health needs.
4) Foster an appreciation for necessity of learning, thinking critically, and continuing to grow personally and professionally.
5) Contribute to the nursing profession and to society by engaging in scholarship, leadership, and services.
6) Acquire a high level of knowledge of the physical and psychological growth and development of children so that deviation from the normal can readily be detected.
7) Develops more appreciation of the dynamic of family background, family relationships and life experience which influence a child's ability to cope with daily living activities.
8) Develop competency to assess, implement and evaluate the children's needs with varying degree of illness.
9) Be able to develop an increased competence in giving specialized nursing care to children (in neonatal and surgical units).
10) Develop beginning skills in the research for new knowledge in the area of pediatric nursing.
11) Investigate physical, social and psychological impact of illness, handicap and hospitalized children at different stages of development.
