History:
The Obstetric and Gynecologic Nursing Department was established as a part of the Higher Institute of Nursing, Alexandria University in 1955.
Mission:
The Obstetric and Gynecologic Nursing Department's primary mission is to provide a continuum of comprehensive educational program in the area of specialty which prepares student nurses (nurses to be) and provides opportunities for continuing education and training that enhances the development of scientific and practical skills, which reflect on the women health during the maternity cycle.
Vision:
The department aspires for a pioneering status worldwide as a center of excellence in obstetric and gynecologic nursing education and academic research for the advancement of nursing practice nationally, regionally and internationally.
Objectives:
- Update the strategic plan to be consistent with global changes and strengthen the overall progress toward the international accreditation.
- Develop the capacity of staff members and encourage them to collaborate with regional and international agencies to advance the educational process and scientific research.
- Develop students' learning ability through activating modern strategies in teaching and learning and encourage them to continuing education in order to produce high caliber in obstetric and gynecologic nursing.
- Establish special programs such as open education in accordance with the needs of the society and labor market requirements.
- Update the postgraduate programs to be in accordance with the international standards and that is through continued support to develop the system of integrated scientific research.
- Commercialize scientific research to improve the quality of nursing care based on evidence and take action to apply in practical field and education.
- Formulate an effective partnership with various health care agencies through the provision of consultations at both local and regional levels by distinct faculty staff members.
- Develop human and material resources through the activation of the role of special units and converting them into centers of excellence.
- Activate self-evaluation and continuous improvement to achieve excellence in all elements of the higher education and scientific research.
- Maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of community service on the Obstetric and Gynecologic Nursing Department at the local and regional levels.
Scientific Degrees:
The department offers special courses needed to award the following scientific degrees:
- Master in Obstetric and Gynecologic Nursing.
- Doctorate in Obstetric and Gynecologic Nursing.
- Diploma in Midwifery.
