The mission of the Psychiatric Nursing and Mental Health Department is to provide various educational opportunities in psychiatric nursing for undergraduate and postgraduate students. It aims to help students communicate effectively, think critically, intervene appropriately in the care of the clients and their families in a variety of clinical settings.


The Psychiatric Nursing and Mental Health Department possesses the potentials that qualify its members to achieve excellence in undergraduate and graduate education and practice of psychiatric nursing. The department enhances psychiatric nursing education and practice on the national and international levels, and enables promotion of mental health and prevention of mental illness in the community.


  • Develop and enhance knowledge and skills of student nurses in the care of clients with various psychiatric disorders.
  • Develop skills of student nurses to utilize the concepts of psychiatric nursing in the different areas of nursing practice.
  • Emphasize the concept of primary, secondary and tertiary prevention in the care of patients with psychiatric disorders.
  • Develop a more positive attitude towards patients with psychiatric disorders.
  • Provide continuing education programs for nurses working in the field of psychiatric nursing.
  • Conduct researches aiming at expanding knowledge and improving practice of psychiatric nursing.

Scientific Degrees:

The department offers special courses needed to award the following scientific degrees:

  • Master in Psychiatric Nursing and Mental Health.
  • Doctorate in Psychiatric Nursing and Mental Health.
  • Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing and Mental Health.



The Psychiatric Nursing and Mental Health Department started in 1974. It provides educational opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate students in different domains to prevent mental disorders, reduce the prevalence of mental illness and ensure the continued wellbeing of people, as well as to identify mental health problems and provide appropriate nursing care to patients with various psychiatric problems.

The Quality Assurance Unit of direct relevance to the faculty dean, and its administrative structure and organizational structure is adopted and documented and the job description, responsibilities and functions are documented .The Dean of the faculty is the unit's board of director, Director of the Unit manage it in collaboration with the Executive Committee as well as the unit has an advisory committee and students team. The unit works on endorsement policies, work systems, and internal and external audits of the faculty that achieve unit purposes in light of the faculty and university quality strategy. The unit applies quality management in accordance with the requirements of ISO 9001/2008 and IWA 2. One of the significant responsibilities of the unit is monitoring the implementation of the quality system in scientific departments in terms of follow-up, review and update courses' specifications and reports, and the application of academic standards. The Unit is working to achieve quality and accreditation by granting the faculty privileged status and identity that ensure performance improvement, as well as provide means to meet the needs of students, the surrounding community, and the labor market. It has been issuing many of ISO instructions and models that arise out of them as well as quality assurance and documentation of quality control and circulated to faculty departments.

Quality Assurance Unit of the Faculty of Nursing, Alexandria University

Mission of the unit:

Quality Assurance Unit, Faculty of Nursing University of Alexandria seeks to spread a culture of quality and work to ensure the continued development and accreditation through the application of a quality system includes the developed educational programs and improves scientific research and community service at the local, regional and international levels.

Vision of the unit: 

Quality Assurance Unit, Faculty of Nursing, Alexandria University looking forward for excellence in performance and work on the improvement and continuous development of the educational process in line with international standards for quality assurance and accreditation.

Objectives of the unit:

  • Application of the development plan for the faculty.
  • Update action plan for the quality assurance unit to cope with changes and strengthen the faculty to progress for the regional and international accreditation in line with the strategic plan of the College.
  • Publish and promote culture of accreditation, quality assurance and institutional capacity of the faculty.
  • Follow up the development of programs of scientific research and graduate studies to keep up with the international standards
  • Establish a system of comprehensive evaluation and follow-up performance and continuous improvement of educational effectiveness at the national and international standards for the performance of university education.
  • Strengthen communication channels between the faculty and the various institutions and centers which allow exchange of experiences in the field of quality.
  • Improve the satisfaction of the beneficiaries of the services provided by the faculty and work for its development
  • Update and develop of the faculty quality manual according to its best practices
  • Determining non-compliance and take appropriate corrective action
  • The application of system documentation and information in the faculty.

Visio& Mission of the unit

Measurement and Assessment Unit:

Within the framework of the university’s endeavors to develop and improve the outputs of teaching and learning, this unit was established. It is concerned with preparing standards for measuring and assessing the performance of the university students, as these standards represent everything that the student should know and be able to perform and are considered a reference guide for teaching and assessing his performance.

The Vision:

The unit aspires to develop the policies and mechanisms of measurement and assessment at the faculty of Nursing in a way that ensures credibility, transparency, objectivity, and fairness so that it qualifies the unit to compete with its counterparts in the local labor market.

The Mission:

Activate the systems of measurement and evaluation of the faculty through the dissemination of a culture of development and follow-up, training and technical support, analysis of exam results and feedback, corrective action in order to provide an honest and fair measurement of educational programs, and courses' intended learning outcomes.


1. Raising awareness of the importance of developing measurement and evaluation processes as one of the approaches to improve the education system in the faculty at both the educational and administrative levels.

2. Following up the implementation of student evaluation mechanisms and examinations, announcing the results, and using them in developing and improving the outcomes of the educational process through the unit.

3. Preparing and updating question banks for academic curricula in light of the intended learning outcomes and academic standards for the educational programs in the faculty.

4. Providing technical support to the scientific departments of the faculty to review evaluation methods, tools, and exam results.

5. Measuring the results of tests and questionnaires in the faculty.

6. Reviewing the annual reports on the evaluation of the examination work and preparing implementation plans for corrective measures for weaknesses and emphasizing the reinforcement of strengths.

7. Submit plans and proposals to address weaknesses in the evaluation and measurement systems in the faculty.

8. Cooperating with local and regional educational institutions to exchange experiences in the field of measurement and evaluation for the field of nursing.

9. Adopting evaluation systems for students using educational methods and modern technology.

10. Preparing the ethical charter for student evaluation systems.

11. Issuing information and statistics on the extent of development in the measurement and evaluation systems in the college, and the extent of their application of electronic evaluation systems.

12. Encouraging faculty members to apply electronic evaluation systems (applying electronic exams & electronic correction, and benefit from analyzed exam results).
