Unit to Combat Violence Against Women in Egyptian Universities
Promoting a culture of respecting women and girls and protecting them from all forms of violence is a general trend of the Egyptian state, under a wise political leadership that believes that there can be no rise of a proud and strong nation, built on solid foundations that strike deep into the depths, without achieving justice and equality among all its individuals, regardless of their differences and diversity, and without combating all negative societal phenomena that hinder its individuals from participating in their main role in building their nation. Providing a safe educational environment in which female faculty members, assistants, workers and students enjoy appreciation and respect to achieve equality and empowerment in society.
Message:
Establishing the principle of equal opportunities between the sexes and opposing all forms of exclusion and marginalization of women from development fields and emphasizing their right to receive support and economic empowerment, as women are the foundation of construction, education and social upbringing.
Unit Specialization:
- The unit is specialized in receiving complaints of violence against women, studying the case and providing medical and social support
- In the case of an official complaint, the statements of the concerned parties and witnesses are summoned and heard, the necessary recommendations are issued and referred to the competent authorities to take a decision in accordance with the law.

1- Communicate with the coordinator of the Anti-Violence Against Women Unit at the college.

The role of the university in combating violence against women
The university plays an important role at the scientific and educational levels, and also in confronting any deviation from ethical rules; Therefore, universities establish clear and announced policies to confront violence or discrimination against women, while the importance of the idea of establishing a unit to combat violence against women that has a work policy, a channel for complaints, and announced rules for managing complaints emerges. Commitment to these rules is through announcing them and emphasizing commitment to them by all members of the university community at all levels. Within the framework of this policy, all parties have responsibilities included in the legal relationship between them. Employment contract or student acceptance to study.
The concept of violence:
The concept of violence against women according to the United Nations Declaration: Article 1 of the Universal Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women defines violence against women as “any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or private life.”
Hence, it is represented Violence, in being any behavior or action directed at women based on force, severity and coercion, and characterized by varying degrees of discrimination, oppression, subjugation and aggression, results from unequal power relations between men and women in society and the family alike, such that it takes various psychological and physical forms in harming the woman herself. Article "2/b" of the Declaration specified the forms of practicing violence against women, as it includes, for example, but not exclusively The limitation is the following: physical, sexual and psychological violence that occurs within the general community, including rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment (sexual harassment) and intimidation in the workplace, educational institutions and any other place.
At the local level, Egypt is considered one of the leading countries in the Arab region in confronting violence against women. Laws have become more stringent in their view of the issue of violence against women in general and sexual harassment in particular, which emphasizes the protection of human dignity, whether male or female, as verbal or moral assault, harassment of others, sexual harassment, and any acts that target reputation or undermine dignity, whether by word or use of media such as publishing or technology, are crimes.

Confidentiality is an essential and crucial part of trust in the work of the unit and the assistance it provides, whether legal or in the form of psychological or social support. Confidentiality must be provided to anyone seeking advice from the unit.
- Confidential information is not discussed with colleagues without the consent of the complainant
- Confidential information is not discussed in a place or manner that allows it to be heard
- Information related to the complaint is stored and dealt with in accordance with the data protection system
- No information about cases can be accessed unless necessary
- Information that is not kept confidential or incorrectly must be reported so that the Supreme Committee can take the necessary action.
