Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Essam El-Kordi, President of Alexandria University and Prof. Dr. Maha Adel Salem, Dean Faculty of Nursing, Alexandria University, and in collaboration with Kennesaw University, USA, the 14th International Scientific Nursing Conference “Nursing Role in Leading and Advancing the Global Health” was held from 10th to 14th December 2017, at the Alexandria University Hall, Faculty of Nursing, Alexandria-Egypt.

The main conference themes were leadership in nursing, developing nursing practice, education and research, patient safety, quality of life of patients, families and caregivers, continuous in-service development and education, and the concept of holistic healthcare.

Researchers from Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Sudan, Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, the United States and the United Kingdom presented 36 research papers relevant to all nursing specialties with the aim of enhancing quality of patient care, as well as improving nursing practice, education and research.

Attendants included faculty members, nursing students, directors and heads of different hospitals, and medical and nursing staff from university and private hospitals, health care centers, the Ministry of Health and Health Insurance, the military and police hospitals, Members of the Scientific Association of Arab Nursing Faculties, and members of the National Authority for Quality Assurance of Education and Accreditation were among the attendants.

On the sidelines of the conference, an interactive workshop entitled "Infection Control" was conducted. It was attended by faculty members, medical and nursing staff responsible for infection control at Alexandria University hospitals, medical institutions, military hospitals and private hospitals.

The main recommendations were the implementation of international standards for patient safety in all health sectors and the replication of interactive workshops on infection control in collaboration with different health institutions to identify the challenges and obstacles in the field of health care.
